Welcome to MARA T-Ball

MARA T-Ball

A friendly first step into team sports for ages 3–5. We focus on skills, confidence, and having fun together.

Welcome to MARA T-Ball

MARA T-Ball is a fun, welcoming intro to team sports. We teach fundamentals, build confidence and teamwork, and keep things simple for first-time families.

Who Can Play?

  • T-Ball (Fall 2025 & Spring 2026): Boys & girls born May 1, 2020 – Aug 31, 2022
  • AA Baseball: May 1, 2018 – Apr 30, 2020
  • 6U Softball (Spring 2026): Jan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2022

If you’re unsure which division fits best, reach out. We’ll help you decide.

Registration

Fall 2025: Registration is closed. Teams and uniforms are set. No late additions.

Spring 2026: Opens in early January, closes mid-February. Teams set late February. Practices begin end of February. Games mid-March through mid-May.

Important notes (T-Ball only)

  • Friend requests: T-Ball is the only division where you can list other players you’d like to be paired with. There’s a spot on the registration form. We do our best to honor these.
  • Scheduling: Teams are assigned. Coaches choose practice times. We don’t take practice-night team pairing requests, and we don’t take game-time requests.
  • Busy schedules happen: T-Ball is about fun and learning. Please attend as much as you can — your player will be supported whenever they’re on the field.

What to Expect

  • One weeknight practice (5:00 or 6:00 PM)
  • One Saturday game in a morning/early-afternoon window
  • Games last ~1 hour or 3 innings
  • Every child bats every inning; we don’t keep score
  • Players rotate fielding positions across the season
  • We use the GameChanger app for schedules, RSVPs, and coach messages

What Does My Child Need?

Bring each time

  • T-Ball glove
  • Batting helmet
  • T-Ball bat
  • Cleats or sneakers (no metal)
  • Baseball/softball pants
  • Water bottle

Provided by MARA

  • Team jersey & hat (yours to keep)
  • Game balls, tees, shared field equipment
Recommended starter gear (helpful tips)
  • Glove: Look for a smaller tee-ball/youth fit so it’s easy to open/close.
  • Bat: Tee-ball marked bat (lighter weight helps with swing control).
  • Helmet: Youth size with a snug, comfortable fit; faceguard optional.
  • Pants: Any color is fine; gray is common. Ask your coach if the team prefers a color.
  • Label everything: Bats, helmets, and gloves often look alike.

Cost

$185 per season. Includes jersey, hat, field access, shared equipment, and league operations. Families provide the rest of the uniform and gear.

Parent Involvement

MARA T-Ball is 100% volunteer-powered. You don’t need baseball experience — just a willingness to help.

  • Coach / Assistant Coach: We’ll share drills and support.
  • Team Helper: Dugout organization, snacks, quick equipment cleanup.
  • League Support: Events, communication, field setup.

Where We Play

Arthur Goodman Memorial Park
1200 S. Trade Street, Matthews, NC 28105
  • T-Ball uses Fields 5 & 6 (back left corner of the park).
  • Main parking off S. Trade St. Overflow at Matthews United Methodist Church (801 S. Trade St.).
  • Restrooms and concessions are open in-season.
  • Concrete drainage paths to Fields 5/6 — wagons/strollers are helpful.

What’s Next After T-Ball?

AA Baseball (ages ~5–7)

  • Pitching machine (no tee)
  • Outs, innings, scorekeeping
  • 90-minute practices with cage and field time
  • Co-ed; games on Field 7

6U Softball (ages ~4–6)

  • Coach-pitch with a 10" softball
  • Softball-specific fundamentals
  • Focus on development and fun

From there, players move into AAA Baseball or 8U Softball as they grow.
